Crane, Stephen - Red Badge of Courage – 1984 Chatham River Press Classics (Hardcover)

A beautiful edition of Stephen Crane’s American classic, The Red Badge of Courage, published by Chatham River Press in 1984. This handsome hardcover was designed in the tradition of antiquarian bookmaking, with four-color antique marbled boards, a genuine bonded-leather spine, simulated gold-stamped lettering and gilded page edges on all three sides.

This edition reproduces the text of the 1896 D. Appleton and Company edition and is illustrated with Civil War engravings by Winslow Homer. The text is printed on acid-free paper, making this an especially lovely copy for a classics collection, Civil War library or decorative bookshelf.

This copy is in fine, apparently unread condition. The binding remains exceptionally tight, the spine appears uncracked, and the book shows very little evidence of having been opened or read. The gilt and decorative boards remain beautiful. No dust jacket was issued with this edition.
